1 - That's her, second from the right. You won't see the red hair or green eyes, but she was terrific in the Poe films, my favorite of which was The Masque of the Red Death, with (of course) Vincent Price. I hate the term "scream queen" -- she was that, but more. (Comment this)

2 - Going by a glance at her imdb page, it looks as if she was somewhat under-used, which seems to be the fate of too many fine horror actresses (Barbara Steele and Ingrid Pitt come to mind). I see she also appeared in Hammer's The Curse of Frankenstein, in the thankless role of the Good Girl. Still, The Masque of the Red Death is a credit to all involved. I saw it several times on late-night TV in my youth, and have recently viewed it in glorious widescreen on DVD. (Comment this)

3 - An obit I read said that she actually "retired" from acting to devote her time to being a wife and mother. Fair enough too. Just guessing that her assorted but sporadic appearances on American TV shows in subsequent years had more to do with economics than any love of the business.

I did like Ingrid Pitt very much for her very sexy performances in The Vampire Lovers and Countess Dracula -- I suspect that they may even have a had a little subconscious influence on sex scenes I later wrote in The Nightwalker and Finishing Touches. (Comment this)

7 - Personally, when I lurk I prefer to be a bit more eldritch and cosmic about it. To each their own, I suppose. Men are from Yog-Sothoth, women are from Vernon Lee. (Comment this)

8 - Just lurking, myself...Much as I like HPL, I'd rather spend time with Violet Paget aka Vernon Lee, and her snake ladies and phantom lovers. (Comment this)

9 - <sigh> You men.... You can keep Vernon, give me SARA Lee. ;-) --Trish (Comment this)

10 - Would that be the Sara Lee who wrote the classic "Haunted Fruitcake" and "Mix-up at Microwave Manor"?

Ghostly females are doing rather well on this side of the pond. Wordsworth Editions are bringing out lots of interesting stuff, including collections by May Sinclair, D K Broster and Gertrude Atherton, and they're doing it staggeringly cheap. They're also resurrecting some black magic potboilers by the poor man's Montague Summers, Dennis Wheatley; and I have a collection of the best of the Other Two Benson Boys in waiting. (Comment this)
