Happy Christmas and New Year to all!

Check back a year ago, my grandaughter Kylie is now a year old, and thriving.  I'm finishing up a piece on Jack Ketchum's The Lost and a new short story for Cemetery Dance, and I have a new novel well in progress.  May 2008 be all that we all hope it will be for us.

"Desert Village"

DESERT VILLAGE

The absence of a voice

Or any sign of life.

I am buried beneath

This heap of shacks.

I could almost believe

My presence is more than

A trick of the hot sun,

That the flute's tune

Sidles from

More than imaginary winds.

-----

This is a short poem from my small collection Abandoned Homes, published by Peter Fallon's Gallery Books in Dublin, 1972. It was the eighth publication on the nascent Gallery list, which later became Gallery Press, and which to this day is one of the best poetry publishers in the world. Peter's publishing partner in those early days was Eamon Carr. I was fortunate to meet them when I did. Eamon became the drummer for Horslips -- along with Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy, they helped pave the way for U2.
